Jehan-Jacques Blancpain started making watches in 1735 in Villeret, Switzerland. He founded the Blancpain brand, setting up his first workshop on the upper floor of his house at Villeret, in the present-day Bernese Jura.
In 1815, Frédéric-Louis Blancpain, the great-grandson of Jehan-Jacques, who was head of the family business at the time, modernized production methods and transformed the traditional craft workshop into an industrial undertaking capable of serial production. By replacing the crown-wheel mechanism with a cylinder escapement, Frédéric-Louis introduced a major innovation into the watchmaking world

This Blancpain X Swatch watch honors Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms, the first true diver’s watch. Its blue case and crown are made of Bioceramic material. The word “Swatch” is inscribed on the outer left side of the case. The metal dial is printed in several layers of color for a gradient effect. The hour indexes, hour, and minute hands, as well as the scale on the bezel, are enriched with Grade A Super-LumiNova® for outstanding legibility in the dark. The one-direction rotating ocean blue-colored Bioceramic bezel, and biosourced glass are treated with an anti-scratch coating. The SISTEM51 mechanical movement is visible thanks to a transparent sapphire glass and features an illustration of the Atlantic Ocean and the Glaucus Atlanticus nudibranch in digital print.
