The Citizen brand’s roots can be traced back to 1924, when the predecessor of the current Shokosha Watch Research Watch Institute launched its first wristwatch. The name of the Japanese watch empire, as we know it today, originated with the instigation of the mayor of Tokyo in the belief that the new brand will be accessible to all people. In the following years, Citizen gradually demolished the limits of Japanese brands – in 1956 the first shockproof model and in 1959 the first waterproof watch. However, there was no significant breakthrough until the advent of Eco-Drive technology in 1995. The strength of the Eco-Drive system lies in the ability to convert solar energy into electricity, which completely eliminates the need to replace the watch battery. Thanks to this innovation, which is constantly being improved and to which some models add radio time synchronisation with an atomic clock or sapphire crystal, Citizen has become the largest watch producer in the world and its Promaster or Satellite Wave models are world-famous concepts. The most common case materials in the brand’s range are stainless steel, followed by light and strong titanium. However, Citizen does not forget the ladies.
