The Watch

Having perfected its quartz watchmaking skills, Swatch has now turned its attention to automatic mechanisms. The Swiss company has developed a revolutionary movement, called Sistem 51, based on a 100% automatic mechanism. You can discover it with the Irony YIS433G model, featuring a transparent caseback. The mechanism remains visible on the 42mm-diameter case. The brushed stainless steel case is 13.8mm thick. This automatic watch is adjustable via a winding button at three o’clock. It has a mineral crystal and is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The dial

The black dial back has a brushed finish. The dial features ten silvered “baton” hour markers. At three o’clock, a date window replaces the index. An Arabic numeral marks the twelfth hour. To make it easier to read the time, there’s a minute track around the perimeter of the dial. In the center, a large brushed silver circle takes its place, creating the shape of a sun with the hour-markers as rays. Between eight and nine o’clock, an “open-heart” moon-shaped opening reveals the inner mechanism. Two grey “skeleton” hands mark the hours and minutes. A third grey hand indicates the seconds. Under the twelve o’clock index, Swatch finally engraves its name.

The Movement

The caliber of this watch is very special. The SISTEM 51 is the first mechanical movement to be automated from scratch. It takes its name from the number of its components, namely that there are 51 elements making up this mechanism. The Swiss system is made of ARCAP, an alloy comprising nickel, copper and zinc. This alloy, with its non-magnetic properties, repels any moisture or dust. The automatic movement has a 90-hour power reserve.
The strap

The bracelet is an extension of the case. It is made of grey stainless steel. It has a brushed finish, giving it a touch of originality. It fastens with a silver butterfly folding clasp.
Water resistance

This watch is water-resistant to 3 atmospheres (30m). So this model is designed for pomp and circumstance, not for your adventures in the water! Brilliant for social occasions and receptions, aquatic environments are not its strong point! It’ll stand up to rain, splashes and dishwater, but nothing more. We strongly advise against showering or bathing with it, and even more strongly against swimming or diving with it!
